WorkStreams Employee Assistance Program
In today’s society people are often stressed, concerned and anxious about life issues in general. There are times when these stressors make us feel overwhelmed both at work and at home.

Employee Assistance Programs (EAP’s) are a proven strategy for assisting employers, employees, and, when applicable, their immediate families, with various issues that effect work.

WorkStreams has been providing workplace assistance programs for more than 7 years and is an EAP provider and member of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA).

What Does The WorkStreams EAP Offer?
The WorkStreams EAP provides confidential and professional short-term counselling services (up to 5 one hour counselling sessions per employee per annum).
WorkStreams can help you with the following:

  • Feeling overwhelmed/anxious at work and having difficulties coping with demands
  • Depression and emotional stress
  • Grief and loss
  • Substance use problems (e.g., alcohol, drugs)
  • Personal relationship difficulties
  • Work-related conflict that affects job performance
  • Adjusting to workplace change (e.g., downsizing, restructuring)
  • Decision-making with respect to complex work and life issues

Who Conducts The WorkStreams EAP Counselling?
The WorkStreams EAP counselling is conducted by qualifies psychologists who are registered with the Psychologists Registration Board of Victoria and are members of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

WorkStreams psychologists are skilled across the clinical and organisational psychology fields.

WorkStreams EAP Referral
WorkStreams strongly encourages employee self-referral for EAP services.

Referral to the WorkStreams EAP can also be made by workplace Managers or Supervisors where there is perceived evidence of unsatisfactory or diminished work performance that has not been correctable through normal supervisory action.

EAP referral, however, must always be discussed with the employee and agreed to by the employer. The decision to use the EAP service will always rest with the employee.

Are the names of the employees and family members who use the EAP services made available to their work organisation?

No details regarding individual participation in the EAP are released without employee permission, regardless of whether the counselling is arranged directly by the employee or arranged by employee Supervisors, Managers or the Human Resources Department. All information is strictly confidential.

Who pays for the EAP services?

There is no charge to employees and their family members for use of the EAP services. The fees for the EAP services are paid for by the employing organisation.

Why would organisations pay for EAP services?

EAP’s contribute to the maintenance of a healthy, stable and productive workforce.
Investing in EAP services to help employees has many benefits for organisations and achieves many positive outcomes.

Does and employee have to attend counselling?

No-use of the WorkStreams EAP is voluntary and will not effect employee job security, employment status or promotional opportunities. The organisation supports employee use if the EAP services.

What family members can use the WorkStreams EAP?

Immediate family members of employees have access, when applicable, to the WorkStreams EAP. Immediate family members are parents, siblings, partner/spouse and children

How many counselling sessions are employees entitled to?

The WorkStreams EAP offers up to 5 one-hour counselling sessions per employee per annum. Counselling for family members of employees is included in the 5 sessions.

What happens if an employee requires referral to an external service for ongoing or more specialised treatment?

In circumstances where long-term counselling or specialist assistance is appropriate, WorkStreams will assist employees in selecting a suitable external service provider. External service provision is not part of the WorkStreams EAP and is at the employee’s own cost.

How do employees access the EAP services?

Employees can access the EAP services through their Managers, Supervisors or Human Resources department, or alternatively can access the service themselves by telephoning WorkStreams directly.
